GUI In Development

I am starting development on an official Installer and Manager for AMX Mod X. Take a look at the list below and respond with any opinions, such as unnecessary or missing features, ideas, et cetera.

It will have the following features:
  • Easy Installation
  • Autodetection of mods/HL-dirs
  • Ability to modify configuration files with a graphical interface
  • Auto-Updating of AMX Mod X
  • Copy configurations to different mods
  • Ability to compile plugins on the fly and add them in
  • Easy CVAR manipulation
  • Configuration for multiple servers in the same dir

I don't know about it yet but another cool feature might be having the tool daemonize as a web server so you can do AMXx administration over the web.

As to whether it will run under linux: if there was the "daemonized" version, yes. Otherwise there would be a console based installer script only.

YaY!

Sounds Like we have a winner Bailopan...

It would also be cool to have an editor like Smalled that actually worked..
He was updating smalled but everyone drove him nutz and he made his homepage.. say STOP IT! is Big Bold letters.. lol

Sounds good

this would problay be a big winner for getting server companies to endorse AMXX on thier servers with this installer :)

Try this

Although I dont think this is necessary because the current AMX/AMXX followers seem to have no problem with manually installing the software.

HOWEVER, I believe this would help bring new users that have little to no server knowledge over to the AMXX side. Reason being is convience, and the fact that all they have to do is click a few buttons. I say go for it, but go for it after release v1.0 !

This is a very good idea for releasing to server companies, then that would give many comanpies comsumers more choice on what to install on there server when ordered.

I love the idea!! AMXX will dominate most HL servers this way, and I personally like the idea of "Copy configurations to different mods" which would save alot of work (who likes installing twice??)

I say GJ, and why wait for release 1.0?? if it is gonna have Auto-Update features then release this with 0.2!!! just my opinion tho..

Regardless, I don't use installers, but I may just give the "Copy configurations to different mods" feature a try!!

Excellent Job/Idea Bailopan!!

OMG I would bare your children if I could! LOL. Not because I dont know what I am doing but its because I have found myself with less time to manage my servers nowadays and this would cut on a lot of time for me!
