Hi all,

Yes I am aware that there are many posts like this, but all are older dates and I can't bring it to work, following those manuals there. So I try a new thread with the exact versions I use and the exact filecontents and folder contents.

I had a server running until the unholy update when they changed also the update method to steamcmd.exe. My Metamod and Sourcemod stopped to work. I after that soon gave up and am now trying again to bring it to run on a completely new installation from scrap.

My dedicated Left4dead2 server was installed on 04 Dec 2013 (works perfectly) with these commands:
steamcmd.exe
login user pass
app_update 222860

then I downloaded:
mmsource-1.10.0-windows
sourcemod-1.5.2-windows
and created a File:
metamod.vdf
The content of the vdf File reads:
"Plugin"
{
"file" "../left4dead2/addons/metamod/bin/server"
}

Is this correct ? I do not find a folder server in the bin folder, just a file that is server.dll

I changed this line to
addons/metamod/bin/server
addons/metamod/bin/server.dll
../left4dead2/addons/metamod/bin/server.dll
none brought any success, it is back to the original now above



this "metamod.vdf" I dropped in the folder .......steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server\left4dead2\addons

I unzipped the two files
I dropped the content as it said to the correct folders:
al that said addon in the folder above
and the one that said cfg in the folder .......steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server\left4dead2\cfg

the result looks like this:
in the addon/metamod folder is an additional file from sourcemod, sourcemod.vdf

meta version is an unknown command, this means not even metamod is running and consequently also no sourcemod.

I read and read and read what my problem could be, and it seems everyone with a problem just misplaced the metamod.vdf not in the addon folder (as the solution in the end)

Since according to all forum topics that cover my problem I seem to have done all correct and the text in the vdf file seems also to be correct, I have to assume, that I use wrong versions, or maybe the path is different than posted everywhere ...

So please help, I have no clue what could be wrong.

If you're running the dedicated server through the graphical interface, right-click it, go to properties, and add "-game left4dead2" to the launch options.

Ohh I see, not the Steam Client, I made a shortcut, and yes that worked, I would never have firgured out that one, thank you
