I am wondering how to get Faster DL's for my server. I heard of something like bz2 or something and i was wondering how it works? And how to add it so it works with SM. I heard of sv_downloadurl but i dont have a host place that is fast.

Thanks for the help in advance!

You need a fast host with a good amount of bandwidth. The closer the host is to you the faster. sv_allowdownload 1 sv_downloadurl "URL"
bz2 is the compression that source can unzip, anything on fastdl can be zipped with it but wont always make it smaller.

Nope, the client will unzip it after the DL automatically by Source.

If you don't use a fast download server, the server will automatically compress the files before sending them to the client. (You will see a bunch of .ztmp files in, for example, the maps directory.) You don't need to bzip them on your own.

They will download quite slowly from the server though. SRCDS limits the bandwidth used for downloads so that the server doesn't lag. If you use a fast download url, the download speed is limited only by your host and the client's connection.

Use this tool for creating your .bz2 files. It will save you tons of time.

It has the ability to FTP to your gameserver, download the files, bz2 them, and then upload them to your redirect webserver. All automagically. Most files get a good amount of compression (especially maps). I would just bz2 everything.
