There wasnt anything wrong with it. It just had the wrong settings. You can make it so people can only give + karma and you can have it show who gave you the karma.

No...you misread what I mean.

Having positive karma only just perpetuates a cycle where people give karma just to give karma for no apparent reason, which is what was going on before. If you are going to have a system of positive karma only, it needs to be based upon something concrete, otherwise it gets abused the opposite way. Get a lot of friends on the boards that just karma you and give you karma boosts for no reason except to do so and you are kinda subverting the system of why karma was put in place in the first place.

Negative Karma is necessary to keep a balance, but it can be easily abused as well (a la Karma Bombing, neg karma-ing someone because you just dont like them, etc...). Both of these reasons are why I didnt like Karma, and found it to be hopelessly pointless, except in the cases where it was given for something concrete and useful (i.e. plugin creation, helping with a set of code, negative karma given for trolling, intentionally misleading someone, etc...).

Because of those two reasons, karma is nothing more than an e-peen size that doesnt mean anything imho.
