Both valve and cstrike are included with the base appid 90 even without an app_set_config.

Valve has a tendency to run hlds betas for a long time, even when they have important bugfixes...

...or if they're for the SteamPipe update. Seriously... tfc, dmc, and the like are STILL in Beta...

If you're using the version downloaded from HLDSUpdateTool, of course it doesn't. AMXModX 1.8.2 only works on the HL1 games updated through SteamCMD...

We have now converted Day of Defeat to the new SteamPipe beta, you can get a dedicated install for it by using the following command line:
steamcmd +logon anonymous +force_install_dir ..\hlds...

It makes sense if you think about it... as more games are shifted over to SteamPipe, they switch some of the servers from the old (unnamed) Steam content delivery network to SteamPipe.

After the HL1 and Source 2009 games are done, they still have the L4D games and Alien Swarm... I think that'll finish off the Valve games.

Of course, some third-party games also use...

Note that Opposing Force hasn't yet been converted over. Also, its unclear what the appid is for non-CS16 servers, such as hldm.

Although its not noted in any documentation, the most recent Linux update to steamcmd added steamcmd.sh, which they recommend using instead of steam.sh as its smart enough to not need the STEAMEXE...

As a reminder, this update is scheduled to hit 3 hours from now (at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 6pm GMT), not taking Valve Time (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time) into account.

TL;DR This update goes live tomorrow, and servers that don't update to it will find that clients won't be able to connect to their servers.

Wow, I know Debian Stable is behind, but they're using a GLIBC from 4 years ago in the stable release that came out 2 years ago. Even Debian testing is only on 2.13.

Valve is starting to require newer versions of GLIBC for GoldSrc. 2.15 is from March 2012 (http://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=7163).

They're going to require it for all games in not too much longer. It's part of their new distribution system.
