It don't have to be added to GunGame mod. There is a plugin by altex which works just like you described and do it regardless of GunGame .

Tried it with gungame and it didn't play nice.

I'm using the knifefight plugin on two different versions of gungame(sourcemod and eventscripts) and it works fine. You're doing something wrong.

No, it is a completely different author. I'm running this version and beta testing 5.1 from the eventscripts team.
