Root This Box BAILOPAN/AM/PM/sawce

Here's a small little overview of Root This Box (RTB).

You start off by accessing an insecure box that someone has set up for this little "game". You need a program that runs an SSH window such as PuTTY.

After you connect to this box, the main goal is to gain root access to the machine and prove you did it.

I am currently using this box: hack.ericj2190.net
Just follow that link to the main webpage and it will give you login information.

This is quite fun if you enjoy working your way around a remote machine with SSH.

Yea well it gives people with the skills something to keep them busy for a few minutes rather than attacking innocent people.

2. Do not change any passwords or otherwise limit other people's access.
3. Do not make any malicious outgoing connections from this box.
4. Do not use fork bombs or anything else that puts a heavy load on the CPU.
5. Do not make any irreversable or hard-to-repair changes to the system.

Ok... If I was to create an HTML file in the public_html dir of hack.ericj2190.net, where would it actually be located on the web?

I found the password in a file...

I used:
